To apply mathematical abilities to encryption methods, compression techniques, games, or any project requiring rigorous mathematical intervention.

To simultaneously make use of both the practical interest of computers with the strong background in mathematics.

Accomplishments/Honors/Skills

Authored a simple Intrusion Detection System (IDS) after achieving a real-time decryption of packets belonging to unscrupulous Back Orifice servers/clients.

Earned high score in the Putnam contest, which is based in pure mathematics.

Experience

Programming/Scripting Languages: C/C++, BASIC, assembly (x86, SPARC, MIPS and 680x0), Matlab, Lisp, Java, Perl, Python, UNIX shell scripting.

Networking experience with Ethernet, PPP, (C)SLIP, PLIP, and wireless, implementing routing, proxies, and firewalls. Understand but have not yet worked with ATM, spanning tree (in switches), (tagged) VLans, etc.

Have written papers and programmed utilities covering the areas of: integer factorization (many methods), encryption, emulation, and a C preprocessor (to add static and dynamic scoping abilities to variables).

Four years of UNIX/Linux (SYSV and BSD) experience.

Additional Information

Background in pure mathematics offers many rewards in general problem solving and in understanding/applying interwoven or discrete logical elements.
